Children enjoyed sharing books and responding to stories to celebrate Bookweek 2018. Books were discussed as treasures we share to enter another world. Children shared their special books and dressed up as their favourite character from a book they had shared.
Our Excursion.
We all had a wonderful day at Maru Koala and Animal Farm. The Rangers showed the children a stick insect, a lizard, a snake, a wallaby, a kangaroo and a koala. She shared lots of information with us.
We had lunch together then we went around the pirate ship playing mini golf. We had some star players!
Next we looked at all the animals like the wombat, pony and rabbit. The Ranger gave us some feed and we went to feed the kangaroos. It was great fun!
Brain break – Yoga.
As part of our participation in Positive Partnerships we have introduced Brain Breaks into our daily program. Recent research into learning has suggested that our brain requires frequent downtime for optimal learning. Brain breaks have been associated with improvement in childrens’ concentration and offering relief from stress. The most effective brain breaks incorporate some level of physical movement in order to stimulate neurological pathways.
We have introduced Yoga breaks to our class routine that have proved very popular with the children. Although the break only lasts for seveal minutes the children seem refreshed and ready to focus on new learning. We will be exploring Brain Breaks to allow for all personality types in the class. presently there are Mindful colour-ins and lego alongside the Yoga.
We love to write in Foundation.
Learning with Harold.
Children visited the Life Education van on Friday. They enjoyed meeting Harold, the giraffe puppet, who helped them to discuss how to be friends with others. They learnt the difference between prickly words and soft cloud words. Children decided the soft words were best for friendship. By using Harold magic the children were able to rub the carpet and get a video to play where Harold showed them how to be safe, and how to make friends.
Children successfully identified the brain, heart and lungs as part of our human body. They also identified emotions that we all experience. Children have Harold Friendship books that we will follow up with in class then send home for you to share together.

Number fun.
Counting to ten has been fun in our Community. Children have been given a number card and then have to arrange themselves into the correct order from 0 to 10. It is proving a fun way to learn our number order. Included into Math Tool bags is a game where children roll their die and find the corresponding picture showing that number of dots. It is an independent game, building self confidence and number skills at the same time.
